Actor Ashok Kumar who ventured into Tamil cinema with Muruga which hit the screens back in the year 2007 under the direction of director R. T. Neason fell in the attention of Tamil cinema audience through his sophomore drama Pidichirukku helmed by Kanagu with actress Vishakha Singh in the female lead role. Following the entertainer, the actor has done a handful of dramas but has not been able to taste commercial success. The actor who was last seen on screens this year in director Ranga Kumar’s Bestie alongside actress Yashika Aannand is now gearing up for the release of his next movie christened Mayathirai. Debutant director T Sampath Kumar, an erstwhile associate of directors Bala and Ezhil has directed the movie. Mayathirai has actresses Chandini Tamilarasan and Sheela Rajkumar playing the female lead roles. The film is all set to hit the theaters on 5th of this month.

The two-minute trailer cut opens in an eerie dilapidated building. After the title card the short video gives us a glimpse of the action sequences, and romance portions including that of a romance with a human and ghost. Speaking about the movie, to a leading media house in the state, director T Sampath Kumar stated, “There is a huge pile of horror dramas that got made in Tamil cinema. Mayathirai will be quite different from them all. It has a love triangle between the spirits.” Speaking further, the director revealed that the movie is based on a few real-life incidents. “In the 90’s a touring talkie caught fire in Nagercoil which claimed the lives of 23 innocent people. It is from this incident that I drew inspiration from for Mayathirai. In the plot, we have sort of experimented with the ghosts leading a life like that of humans. It would be an interesting thing to watch.”
Talking about the drama, actor Prashanth said, “The trailer looks promising. It looks like a completely different attempt in the horror genre. My best wishes to the team and producer Sai garu who is like a family to me. I hope the film will be a huge success.”
Apart from Ashok Kumar, Chandini Tamilarasan and Sheela Rajkumar, the casting of the flick includes actors Jai Bala, Tarun Master, Sujatha Master, Master Aarav, Bhava Lakshmanan, Kadhal Saravanan, and Kadhal Sukumar playing various other supporting roles. Cinematographer Elayaraja Velusamy has shouldered the camera for the flick. Music directors S Thaman and S N Arunagiri have composed the music for the drama. Lyricist Gnanakaravel has written the lyrics for the songs. The editing department of the entertainer has been handed over to editor Koteswaran M Suresh. The movie is funded by V Sai Babu under his banner house First Frame Entertainments.
On the work front, actor Ashok Kumar who was last seen on screens in bestie is currently busy shooting for his next flick christened Therkathi Veeran helmed by story teller Saarath. On the other hand, actress Chandini Tamilarasan who was last seen on screens in Ward 126 is currently busy shooting for her upcoming drama titled Bommai under the direction of film maker Radha Mohan in which she will be seen alongside actors S. J. Surya and Priya Bhavani Shankar.
