For over a decade, horror thriller was a leaning in Tamil cinema. Bunch of horror thrillers kept hitting the screens week in and week out. After a point, the audience got bored, tired, and then suffocated. But even then, our film makers did not seem to be in the mood of offering us redemption. Out of a thousand horror thrillers over the period, only few managed to scare the audience. DeMonte Colony was one such drama. Helmed by film maker R. Ajay Gnanamuthu the film hit the screens in the year 2015 with actor Arulnithi in the lead. The film opened up to positive reviews from the critics. As the result, it went on to be a massive success in the box office. The film which was made with a budget of 2 crore bagged a collection of 25 crore. Now, nearly after seven years we have news regarding the entertainer.
There are talks in k-town that the project is set to have a sequel. Actor Arulnithi is said to be essaying the lead role. But there seems to be a change in the direction department. Director R. Ajay Gnanamuthu who wrote and directed the first installment will be restricting his part to being a writer. And the sequel is said to be helmed by his longtime associate Venky. An official confirmation on the same is expected to be made soon. Following which the cast hunt for the project will begin. This is definitely an exciting news not just for the fans of the first part but also for the fans of the horror genre.
Seems like there would be no connection to the first and second installment as in the first part the lead character essayed by Arulnithi will be dead in the end. Or will there be a twist in the tale? Guess, we will have to wait until an official announcement is made. DeMonte Colony was shot extensively on the colony with same name which is located in Alwarpet. Post the release of the drama many youngsters from all around the city began to flock to the place, and the police had to ban the entry of trespasser in to the colony.
