Actor Shaam has not headlined a film in a while. He was last seen in a supporting role in the action drama Varisu scripted by Vamshi Paidipally with actors Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. The entertainer drew mixed reviews from critics. But had a decent record commercially. The Naanga Romba Busy actor is now gearing up for the release of his next crime thriller christened Asthram in which he has played the lead part. Actress Nira has been signed in to essay the female lead role. Director Aravind Rajagopal has directed the movie. Writer M S Jagan has penned the story and dialogues of the entertainer. The production house has officially announced that the flick will be released on 28th of February.
The makers have now released the trailer of the movie on social media. Taking to his official X handle, actor Arya dropped a poster from the flick along with a link to the trailer of Asthram and captioned it, “Super excited to see Shaam in the intense thriller Asthram – The Secret! Get ready for an edge-of-the-seat experience. Watch the trailer here!” Here is the post made by the actor.
Two minutes long trailer of Asthram opens to an aerial shot of a river captured during dense fog. It is followed by multiple close-up shots of different hands opening a pocket knife and committing suicide. Then we have a person dialing up a cop and saying, “Inspector Akhilan? I have a big lead on the case you are handling now.” We are introduced to a handsome Shaam playing a cop. During the interrogation a victim’s relative recalls, “He came out with a knife in his hand.” In a scene Shaam’s wife expresses her concern to him, “It might seem normal for you to lose sleep over not being able to solve a case. But I cannot see you struggle.” In another shot we see a church father telling, “A god that only does good when someone converts is not really a god. But a politician.”
Earlier talking to a leading media house in the state, director Aravind Rajagopal said, “Asthram began as a small 30-minute pilot drama. I crafted it during the pandemic lockdown. Since it had a great reception within my circle and people who saw it, we decided to turn it into a full-length feature film. Thanks to Jagan who beautifully spun the small script into a full-fledged gripping investigative crime thriller.” Apart from Shaam and Nira, the cast of Asthram also has Ranjith DSM, Venba, Nizhagal Ravi, Jiva Ravi, Aroul D Shankar, and Videsh Anand portraying various supporting roles.
Music director K S Sundaramurthy of 8 Thottakkal fame has handled the musical department of the venture. The cinematography division of the flick has been taken care of by Kalyan Venkatraman. Editor Bhoopathy Vedhagiri has been engaged to bring coherence to the drama. Action director Monster Mukesh has choreographed action blocks for the entertainer. Art director V R Rajavel has designed the background for the project. The movie is funded by DSM Dhanashanmugamani for his production house Best Movies. S Kathiresan has bagged the theatrical rights of the project and will be presenting it under the banner Five Star Creations.
On the work front, actor Shaam is currently busy shooting for his upcoming action film titled Nodikku Nodi helmed by storyteller Vijay Adhiraj with actors Narain and Cook With Komali fame Ashwin Kumar.
