Kanchana 3, written, directed, acted and co produced by Raghava Lawrence hit the screens last weekend. The family entertainer film from the Muni franchise has enjoyed an excellent opening despite negative reviews. The film was bestowed with a lot of negative reviews and was deemed to be the weakest flick of the franchise by critics. But regardless of everything the film has managed to dominate the box office amidst tough competitions from biggies like Kalank and The Curse of La Lorona.
Kanchana 3 is said to have a steady week ahead as Kalank and The Curse of the Weeping Women have received far more negative reviews than Kanchana 3. In the capital city Chennai the film has managed to amass a whooping 2.52 crore in its first three days and an additional 48 lakhs on Monday taking the tally to 3 crore. Throughout Tamil Nadu the film is said to have collected nearly 36 crore and with the envisaged steady going of the film in many screens, it is expected to cross the 50 crore mark by the weekend. Apart from Tamil Nadu the film is said to be doing well in Telugu as well. The film is said to have grossed 60 crore worldwide and is likely to enter the 100 crore club as Kanchana 2 did.
The successful collection record of the film despite the negative reviews is credited to the audience base that the franchise has already earned through the previous flicks. Also, the clever strategy of actor Raghava Lawrence to launch the film as a summer product every time is pointed out by many industry pundits as the success mantra. Whatsoever, the film has managed to do well besides its negative evaluations and the actor is said to be very happy about it. As the saying goes, with success comes speculations, there are rumors in the K town that the actor is set to use this fillip to set foot on politics and has plans to enter electoral politics very soon. For a very long time the actor has been taking very cautious steps to get in to politics but for now we guess we will have to wait to see what the actor has in his mind.
Along with Kanchana 3, two high quality flicks Mehandi Circus and Vellai Pookal hit the screens. They were completely swept away by Lawrence’s film as Kanchana 3 occupied many screens across the state. Despite showered with positive reviews the films had to face a low collection due to the minimal screens issue. On their first three days Mehandi Circus managed to collect 16 lakhs while Vellai Pookal was able to gross only 9 lakhs.
