Millions aspire to be a part of the glamorous cinema industry. But only a miniscule of them make it big. It is not an easy task for anybody hailing from a humble background to just enter the industry and make a name for themselves. Newbie director S D Manipaul who is awaiting the release of his debut project Saala has beaten all odds to engrave his name in the industry. Nearly after spending two decades in cinema, he has written and directed his first flick. Actor Dheeran will make his debut in Tamil cinema with his lead role in the project. Debutant actress Reshma Venkatesh has been signed in to portray the female lead part. It is officially announced that Saala will be out in theaters on 23rd of August.
The production crew has been promoting the film in all platforms. As part of it storyteller S D Manipaul spoke to a popular YouTube channel. Talking about how he conceptualized the plot for Saala he revealed, “I read a news piece about an incident in a bar. It intrigued me. So, I did my own research and had a conversation with then assistant commissioner about the event to get his input. I felt I need real life experience if I am to turn it in to a full-fledged story. Hence, I joined a bar and worked for three months to understand the ethos, operation, and politics in running a bar. I even had exchanges with individuals who are involved in the bar tendering process. I have used all the raw experiences I have had to build the plot of Saala. It has also aided me to capture the atmosphere of a bar with great authenticity.”
Speaking about the story of Saala he said, “It is a story about two rival gangs who battle it out to keep the popular bar of Royapuram under their control. The drama will be rooted in reality. Even the stunt sequences in the movie will be very real and not just a commercial element. I have consciously ensured to not let the flick take a preachy path. Last forty minutes or so of the drama will be very powerful.” Detailing about how Saala happened he disclosed, “I worked as an assistant of Prabhu Solomon for nearly eight years. Then after writing the script, I presented it to more than 50 production houses. Finally, T G Vishwa Prasad sir greenlighted to produce it.” Describing his cast he divulged, “Dheeran has high potential. He has put in a lot of hard work to fit his part. He took multiple classes to get in shape and be the character. Reshma essays the part of a social activist who protests and creates awareness about the perils of alcoholism and bars. She has done an amazing job.”
Apart from Dheeran and Reshma Venkatesh, Saala’s cast has actors Charles Vinoth, Srinath, Aruldoss, and Sampath Ram depicting various supporting characters. Music director Theeson has taken care of the musical department of the entertainer. Cinematographer Ravindranath Guru has cranked the camera for the movie.
