Actor Gautham Karthik is back to business after being busy post his marriage with actress Manjima Mohan. The Hara Hara Mahadevaki actor had his last outing in the action thriller drama Yutha Satham which hit the screens under the direction of film maker Ezhil with actor Parthiban R in the lead role. The entertainer was tagged with mixed reviews from critics and audience. Hence, it ended up having minimal box office collection. The Vai Raja Vai actor has now put that behind him and is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie christened August 16 1947. Storyteller N. S. Ponkumar has written and directed the drama. The project which went on floors with a small pooja ceremony a while back was wrapped and sent to the post production stage a couple of months ago.
Now, the production unit has unveiled the trailer of the film on social media along with its release date. August 16 1947 is slated to hit the theaters on 7th of April this year. Actor Gautham Karthik himself has shared the trailer. Taking to his official twitter handle, the actor dropped a poster from the drama along with the link to the trailer, and wrote, “Glad to release the trailer of August 16 1947! Over two minutes the odd trailer cut opens to a voiceover, “To forget the pain, it’s not necessary to give them rest. It’s enough if we inflict more pain.” We are presented with shots of a man being whipped. We then have the introduction of a happy Gautham Karthik, dancing in an amusing milieu at what appears to be a village festival. Then we have the heroine’s introduction, who says, “I’ve been trapped for ten years within these walls.” Followed by a few shots of romance between the lead actors. A smitten Gautham Karthik, tells, “Whenever I do anything she desires, her face blooms and lights up with a smile.” The mood turns grave. We see Gautham Karthik motivating his people, “Holding a knife with no courage to use it, independence would be a waste for people who live in fear.” The shot cuts to a British officer mouthing, “If you live in fear, you may at least remain alive.” The trailer ends with him saying, “Until I say so, no one should know that India is about to gain independence.”
August 16 1947 is a story about a daring young man, who in an attempt to safeguard the people of his village, puts up a resistance to the abuse and loot of British forces. Apart from actor Gautham Karthik, August 16 1947 has debutant actress Revathy Sharma playing the female lead part.
