Actor Gautham Karthik was last seen on screens in the historical film August 16 1947 directed by N S Ponkumar with actress Revathy Sharma in the female lead role. The entertainer drew mixed reviews from critics and had a poor box office collection. In early 2024 it was announced that the Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu actor will next star in a project tentatively titled GK 19. Debutant story teller Dhina Raghavan, who worked in the role of assistant director for Raju Murugan, will be directing the film. He has sought the assistance of his mentor Raju Murugan to pen dialogues for the drama. There are whispers that actress and wife of Gautham Karthik, Manjima Mohan will be depicting the female lead role. Now we have news that the movie has gone on floors. Actor Gautham Karthik himself has announced the news on social media. Taking to his official X profile, actor Gautham Karthik shared a snap of the clapperboard used for the first take of the entertainer and captioned it, “Grateful for the New Beginnings GRK 19. Speaking to a leading daily about the project, director Dhina Raghavan said, “The story is set at the backdrop of south Chennai. It will revolve around the people, culture, and politics in the locality. There will not be any effort at embellishment or glorifying elements in the plot. I have consciously ensured to cover the politics and lives of people in an authentic manner. At the same time, I have deployed humor to keep the flow from getting too serious. It would be in tune with the likes of Mandela and Joker.” Talking about the character played by Gautham Karthik, he stated, “Gautham Karthik plays a youngster who is involved in grassroot level politics. The film will thread on the lives of young people in political parties with no knowledge on politics and ideologies of the party.” Adding further he revealed, “When I narrated the script to him, he was very excited and liked the freshness of the story. He jumped right on and agreed to headline it.”
The casting unit is currently zeroing in on artists that will be part of the cast. An update regarding the same is expected to be made soon. Musician G V Prakash Kumar will be handling musical gears for the venture. Pratheep Kaliraja will be handling the cinematography department of the drama. Editor Vijay Velukutty has been roped in to oversee the editing division of the project. Art director Ramalingam will be engineering sets for the venture. Stunt master Supreme Sundar will be fashioning action moves for the drama. The flick is bankrolled by A P V Maran in association with director Ganesh K Babu of Dada fame under the banner house M G Studios.
On the work front, actor Gautham Karthik is keenly awaiting consecutive releases via Mr. X scripted by Manu Anand in which he has collaborated with actors Arya, Anagha, & Manju Warrier, Criminal directed by Dakshina Moorthy Ramar in which he will be seen alongside actors Sarath Kumar & Janani, Sippai helmed by storyteller Saravanan in which he has shared screen space with actresses Lakshmi Menon & Vibha Natarajan, and Chellappillai crafted by director Arun Chandhiran.
