Actor Suriya was last seen on screens in a cameo part in the biographical flick Rocketry: The Nambi Effect which hit the screens under director R Madhavan starring himself, and actress Simran in the lead parts. The entertainer was tagged with mixed reviews by critics and audiences. However, it did a decent commercial business. The Etharkkum Thunindhavan actor has now put that behind him, and is busy shooting for his upcoming period action flick christened Kanguva. Director Siruthai Siva of Viswasam fame is helming the movie. Writer Adi Narayana has penned the story of Kanguva. Lyricist Madhan Karky has written dialogues for the project. Nearly two and a half minutes of video open to an aerial shot of a dense forest and pans to a battle field with the voiceover, “In the bloodline of Maaraakkan who hoisted the flag on the seabed. From the lineage of Kochaami who felled a mighty tusker. As the heir of Ilamban who vanquished a famine. The grandson of Thangaiyan who tore apart a mountain. The son of Sendhee who ended the evil Chachaangan. To ascend the peaks of Mandaiyaar and capture a cloud. To climb the trees of Vengaadu and attack a white tiger. To step on the isle of Arathi and sow fear in our foes. To mount the wild elephant of Mukkaadu and ride it all around. There is one and only one. Our Kangaa! As a hundred tiger claws brush and bang against his chest. As slithering snakes on withering leaves stop and freeze in terror. As waves on the island shore sketch and etch his face. As drums of Perumaachi reverberate and echo his name. There is one and only. A warrior that war yearns for. Born from the womb of fire. The pride of our isle Perumaachi! Kanga Kanga Kanguva.” The glimpse video has gone viral on social media, and has clocked millions of views in a short period. It has created massive expectations on the film.
Actor Suriya is set to portray five different characters in the film that goes by the names Arathar, Venkaater, Mandaankar, Mukaatar, and Perumanathar. The production unit had released the motion poster of the movie last month which had a masked warrior on a horse standing on a cliff. The production team is eyeing to bring the flick to the theaters in the first half of 2024. Kanguva will be released in 3D format, and in ten different languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, English, and Hindi. The entertainer is made with a whooping budget of 350 crores. It is said that Kanguva will be the fifth most expensive Indian movie.
Earlier speaking to a leading media house about the film, storyteller Siruthai Siva divulged the reason to pick the title, “The term ‘Kangu’ means ‘fire’ in Tamil. Kanguva means a man with the powers of a fire. But the characters in the movie do not possess any superpowers. The reason why we used fire is, during those days fire was an element of worship. We have used certain aspects of that. Hence, the title.” Talking about what made him do a period movie, he stated, “Kanguva is set in the backdrop of 1500 years ago. It is a fictional story in an imaginary world. I kind of always had a fascination for building my own world. Kanguva served as an opportunity to live out my fascination.”
Apart from actor Suriya, Kanguva has Bollywood actress Disha Patani making her debut in Kollywood. The casting department of the entertainer has actors Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, Ravi Raghavendra, K S Ravi Kumar, and B S Avinash depicting various other supporting parts. Music director Devi Sri Prasad has been roped in to score music for the venture. Cinematographer Vetri Palanisamy has been shouldering the camera for the project. Editor Nishadh Yusuf has been bestowed with the responsibility to trim the drama. Art director Milan has been designing the background for the movie. Stunt master Supreme Sundar is choreographing action moves for the entertainer. The movie is funded by K E Gnanavel Raja under his home banner Studio Green along with Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati for the production label UV Creations.
