Film maker Halitha Shameem is quite a popular figure among cinephiles. She made her debut in Tamil cinema with her notable children’s adventure movie Poovarasam Peepee. Despite critical acclamations the entertainer did not do well commercially. Nearly half a decade later her fortunes turned with the commercial success of her anthology drama Sillu Karuppatti. She followed it with Aelay and a segment in Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa. She will soon have a release in Minmini. Actors Esther Anil of Papanasam fame, Praveen Kishore, and Gaurav Kalai have headlined the drama. Khatija Rahman, daughter of Oscar recipient A R Rahman, is set to make her debut as a music director in Tamil cinema through Minmini. The production team has already announced that Minmini will be hitting the screens on 9th of August.
The makers have now released the trailer of the flick on social media. Taking to his official X account, director Lokesh Kanagaraj dropped the trailer of Minmini and captioned it, “Really loved the trailer of Minmini, indeed an inspiring journey for a film. My hearty wishes to Halitha Shameem ma’am, Manoj Paramahamsa sir, and the entire cast and crew.” Here is the post made by the story teller.
The two minute trailer opens to the character played by Esther Anil telling her mother that she needs to do something for her friend. Then we witness her embark on a bike trip with a voiceover, “Who would not be drawn to the light that comes after darkness? But he seemed untouched by the light. Maybe he is passing through an endless, invisible tunnel.” We are shown a few glimpses of an introverted boy who is passionate about painting. He says, “Someday I would like to display my artworks at the Louvre in Paris, or the Acropolis of Athens. Yeah, someday I will do it. But somehow, I do not have the grip on life.” Following few shots have him exploring the Himalayas. A character then says, “Nature heals! Only nature can ease our pain! If you surrender yourself to nature, it will take care of us!” Esther Anil’s character continues, “Every atom in our cells is a million years old. Literally and biologically, you are not the same person as you were born.” The trailer ends with a hopeful note, “Himalayas was once a sea. And look at it now. I believe in transformation. I believe in change!”
Minmini is touted to be a coming-of-age drama which has two teenagers taking a bike trip to the Himalayas to sort out their childhood trauma and discover their true self. Shooting for Minmini was done in two slots. The first phase was shot in 2015 which covers the childhood period. The second phase was done in 2022 where the adolescence chapter unfolds. This was an innovative attempt of director Halitha Shameem to let the child artists grow and reprise their roles. The trailer indeed looks refreshing.
Actor Santhosh Prathap has played a pivotal part in the drama. Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa has been behind the camera. Editor Raymond Derrick Crasta has been trusted with the editing department. Art director Tsering Gurmet Kungyam has designed the background for the flick. The entertainer is produced by Varun Kumar under the production house Tentkotta in association with Manoj Paramahamsa of Simbaaaa Productions.
