Actor Vikram had his last outing in the likes of the epic historical drama Ponniyin Selvan: I which hit the theaters under the direction of story teller Mani Ratnam with an ensemble cast lighting the screens. The drama which reached the theaters in the midst of massive anticipation had a great run in the box office, and ended up collecting 500 crores worldwide. The Raavanan actor has now moved on to his next project, and is currently busy shooting for his upcoming venture titled Thangalaan. Auteur Pa Ranjith is directing the movie. He has written the script of Thangalaan along with writer Tamizh Prabha. Actress Parvathy Thiruvothu of Maryan fame will be portraying the female lead role. The venture went on floors last year with a small pooja ceremony. Couple of shoot schedules have been wrapped. Currently the shooting for the film is underway in Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka. Now, we have news about a new addition to the cast of Thangalaan.
The production unit has announced that Hollywood actor Daniel Caltagirone of The Pianist fame has joined the cast of Thangalaan. Actor Vikram himself has shared the news. Taking to his official twitter account, the actor dropped a poster of the actor from the film, and wrote, “Welcoming huntsman Daniel Caltagirone to the sets of Thangalaan and social media.”
Thangalaan is touted to be a real-life story that happened at the Kolar Gold Fields under the British colonization of India. Earlier speaking in a cinema event about actor Vikram’s performance in Thangalaan director Pa Ranjith said, “Vikram is performing at a different scale. I am astonished by his performance. He is putting in a lot of hard work to play his part. He has to spend around three to four hours every day on makeup. There will be a lot for the audience in Thangalaan.” Earlier talking to a leading media house in the state about the venture, producer Gnanavel Raja said, “Thangalaan will be launched at a grand scale as a pan Indian venture in languages Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The film will be shot using 3D technology as well.”
Apart from actors Vikram, and Parvathy Thiruvothu, the casting department of the drama has actors Malavika Mohanan, and Pasupathy Masilamani depicting vital roles. Music director G V Prakash Kumar has been roped in to score music for the flick. Cinematographer Kishore Kumar has been cranking the camera for the drama. Editor Selva R K has been brought on board to edit the project. Stuntman Stunner Sam has been choreographing action movies for the movie. The drama is produced by Gnanavel Raja under the production label Studio Green.
On the work front, actor Vikram who was last seen on screens in director Mani Ratnam’s epic historical drama Ponniyin Selvan: I is getting ready for the release of the second part of the franchise in which he has played the part of ancient king Aditya Karikalan. The project is set to hit the screens on 28th of April this year. Apart from this entertainer, the actor has his long-delayed project christened Dhruva Natchathiram crafted by story teller Gautham Vasudev Menon in which he has shared the screen space with actress Aishwarya Rajesh in the box awaiting to see the light of day. On the other hand, actress Parvathy Thiruvothu who was last seen in Tamil in a shot from the anthology flick Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum is currently busy shooting for her next Malayalam movie titled Ullozhukku under the direction of film maker Christo Tomy in which she will be seen alongside veteran actress Urvashi. Director Pa Ranjith who had previously helmed Natchathiram Nagargiradhu is also working on his next project titled Vettuvam, and for a Bollywood entertainer based on the life of Birsa Munda.
