Actor Arulnithi garnered the attention of Tamil cinema audience right away in his debut film Vamsam. Following the success of the flick he strategically experimented with action, comedy and thriller genres. Out of which Mouna Guru and DeMonte Colony, made in the thriller genre, handed him decent commercial success. The favorable outcome spurred him to take a liking to the genre. Almost every film he featured subsequently was a thriller. The Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum actor was recently seen on screens in DeMonte Colony 2. Story teller R. Ajay Gnanamuthu who had helmed the first part has also written and directed the second installment. Actress Priya Bhavani Shankar has played the female lead role. The drama which got released earlier this month has opened to mixed reviews.
Recently actor Arulnithi sat down for an interview with a leading media house to talk about DeMonte Colony 2. Speaking about how DeMonte Colony 2 happened he detailed, “I watched the first part of the movie in as many theaters as possible to gauge the response of the audience. In my observation people perceived it as an out and out horror drama which had space for humor without affecting the essence of the drama. I was the one who pressured my director for a sequel. But he made it clear that he would get in touch when he feels he has found the right story for the sequel. He was least interested in just exploiting the momentum that the success of the first part offered and cooking up a middling content. Hence the nine years delay.” He went on to make a surprising disclosure, “Ajay Gnanamuthu has third and fourth installment planned out in the franchise. But it all depends on the success of the second part.”
Revealing why it took so long to release the project he divulged, “DeMonte Colony 2 relies heavily on CGI. This is why post production consumes a lot of time because we want to get it right.” Talking about being branded as a hero of thriller movies, he said, “I am not a fan of thrillers. Probably I have done more thrillers than I have ever watched in my life.” Explaining about how he got hooked to the thriller genre, he revealed, “After the blockbuster hit of DeMonte Colony, many directors approached me with thriller projects. After three or four flicks it sort of became my forte.” Speaking further, he said, “I am actively listening to scripts from different genres. However, it is a little difficult to do a completely contrary role as we run a risk of the flick not connecting with my audience as they are used to seeing me in a specific zone for too long.”
Cast of DeMonte Colony 2 includes actors Antii Jaaskelainen, Tsering Dorjee, Sarjano Khalid, Meenakshi Govindarajan, Arun Pandian, Muthukumar, Archana Ravichandran, Senthi Kumari, Ravi Venkatraman, Priyadarshini Rajkumar, Ranesh, Ramesh Thilak, Sananth, Abishek Joseph George, and M S Bhaskar. Music director Sam C S has handled musical instruments for the flick. Cinematographer Harish Kannan has operated cameras for the venture. Editor D Kumaresh has trimmed the flick. Art director G Ramalingam has fashioned sets for the project. Action director Ganesh has designed action blocks. DeMonte Colony 2 is funded by Bobby Balachandran under his home label BTG Universal in association with Vijay Subramaniam and R C Rajkumar for the banner house White Nights Entertainment.
On the work front, actor Arulnithi will soon join the sets of storyteller Prabhu Jeyaram of Yennanga Sir Unga Sattam fame to shoot for their untitled entertainer.
