The drift of social media sensations being presented with an opportunity to try out their luck on the silver screen is underway in Tamil cinema. Actress Athulya Ravi was one such sensation that made her debut in Kadhal Kan Kattudhe. The Yenni Thuniga actress ventured into Tollywood last year with her female lead role in Meter. She will soon be seen on screens in Tamil via the heist comedy drama titled Chennai City Gangsters. Actor Vaibhav has headlined the entertainer. Debutant directors Vikram Rajeshwar and Arun Keshav have written and directed the flick. The movie is currently in post-production. The makers are working to reserve a release date for the film. An update regarding the same is expected to be made soon.
The production house has begun to promote the entertainer. They recently unveiled the teaser of the drama. Now actress Athulya Ravi has sat down for an interview with a leading daily to talk about the film. Speaking about her part and why she opted to do the role, she stated, “I play an Anglo-Indian woman in the movie. Chennai City Gangsters is a complete comedy entertainer. I have not done an out and out comedy flick before. So, I got very excited after listening to the story. The real interesting part is there is no separate romance track. The core of the drama is a robbery and how it links other characters in the story is the crux of the film.” Talking about how she bagged the part and her experience working with her costar Vaibhav she detailed, “Vaibhav and I know each other even before the project. He called me one day and said that he is about to do a film and asked if I am interested in playing the female lead. So that is how it happened. Since we were good friends it comfortably translated to good on-screen chemistry.”
The actress was full of praise for her directors, “Despite being new to the industry, they were very clear about what they wanted. Be it setting up a scene or in dialogue delivery. But they gave me complete freedom to try and perform in my own way. At the same time, whenever they felt a need for improvement they would suggest.” Describing her future plans she said, “I am still in a learning phase in my career. So, I want to experiment with different roles. If you look at the careers of veteran actresses like Jyothika and Simran ma’am they have done all sorts of roles including negative. That is what I aspire to be.”
Cast of Chennai City Gangsters also comprises actors John Vijay, Livingston, Redin Kingsley, Manikandan Rajesh, Sunil Reddy, Anandraj, Naan Kadavul Rajendran, Shihan Hussaini, and Ilavarasu. Music director D Imman has handled musical instruments for the venture. Cinematographer Tijo Tomu operated the camera for the flick. Editor Suresh A Prasad has been brought on board to bring coherence to the project. Art director Arun Shankar Durai has erected sets for the movie. Action director Don Ashok has choreographed action blocks. Chennai City Gangsters is funded by Bobby Balachandran for his home banner BTG Universal Production.
On the work front, actress Athulya Ravi will next be seen on screens in Diesel directed by storyteller Shanmugam Muthusamy in which she will be seen alongside actor Harish Kalyan.
