Actress Aparna Balamurali made her debut in Tamil cinema in the critically acclaimed crime thriller 8 Thottakkal helmed by Sri Ganesh with actor Vetri as lead. Though the project was a commercial hit, it did not draw people’s attention to her. Even her sophomore flick Sarvam Thaala Mayam with G V Prakash Kumar did not put her on a pedestal. It was her role as ‘Sundari Nedumaaran’ in the Suriya starrer Soorarai Pottru that catapulted her to fame in Kollywood. The actress who had her last outing in Tamil in Nitham Oru Vaanam is gearing up for the release of one the most anticipated films of 2024 Raayan. Written and directed by actor Dhanush. The entertainer is set to hit the theaters on 26th of July.
The actress is aggressively promoting her upcoming entertainer, Raayan. She recently sat down for an interview with a leading media house to promote the movie. Talking about how she felt about landing the role, she expressed, “I just could not believe that I have been approached to play a part in Dhanush sir’s movie. It took a while to process the news. So immediately during the promotion of my flick Nitham Oru Vaanam we had an encounter. Dhanush sir narrated the outline of the plot and my part in it. I found it interesting, and okayed it instantly. I just could not think anything other than a yes.” Detailing about her character in the entertainer, she revealed, “I play a character named Meghala. The role is completely unique from what I have done so far. She is raw, loyal, and confident. She is strongly rooted in North Chennai. She is the type of character that would go to any extent for the people she cares about. And does not give two hoots about people she despises.”

Speaking about her experience working with Dhanush she stated, “We had a lot of freedom to perform. He did not want us to over prepare for our roles. He just wanted us to go with the flow naturally on the spot. It worked well. He is very accommodative to his artists. I am not fluent in Tamil. So, he had the dialogues translated to English with the accent in which I should speak them. It was very helpful.” Talking further she said, “The cast of Raayan was like a bunch of mischievous kids that he had to manage. Even when we were not shooting for our part, we used to go to the shooting spot just to watch Dhanush sir directly. It was a delight to watch Dhanush sir direct and S J Suryah sir perform. It was a great overall experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working on Raayan.”
Raayan also has actors Prakash Raj, S J Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Selvaraghavan, Jayaram, Aranthangi Nisha, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Anikha Surendran, Saravanan, and Dushyanth Ramkumar playing various supporting roles. Musician A R Rahman has scored music for the film. Cinematographer Om Prakash has handled cameras for the drama. Editor G K Prasanna is trusted with the editing department. Action master Peter Hein has designed action blocks. The drama is funded by Kalanithi Maran under his production label Sun Pictures.
On the work front, actress Aparna Balamurali will soon have a release in Malayalam via Ula directed by Praveen Prabharam. She is currently shooting for her upcoming Malayalam ventures titled Mindiyum Paranjum crafted by Arun Bose, and Rudhiram helmed by story teller Jisho Lon with actor Raj B Shetty in lead.
