Actor Suriya last graced the silver screen in the epic fantasy action movie Kanguva crafted by Siruthai Siva with actress Disha Patani as female lead. Unfortunately, the entertainer was subjected to unprecedented negative reviews, and had a poor collection. The Thaanaa Serndha Koottam star will soon have the opportunity to turn things around with his next venture Retro. Story teller Karthik Subbaraj has written and crafted the flick. Retro will mark the first collaboration of actor Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj. Actress Pooja Hegde of Mugamoodi fame has played the love interest of Suriya in the project. The production unit has officially publicized that the drama will be releasing worldwide in theaters on 1st of May this year in languages Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
The production house had unveiled the teaser of Retro recently. Ahead of valentine’s day they have shared the first lyrical video from the drama on social media. Taking to his official X account, director Karthik Subbaraj dropped a poster from the drama along with a link to the lyrical video ‘Kannadi Poove’ from Retro and worded, “A Love drug from Retro to all who ‘Are… Were…. Will be’ Someone’s Valentine. Kannadi Poove. My most favorite track from my most favorite duo. A Santhosh Narayanan musical. Penned by Lyricist Vivek. Retro From May 1. Music composer Santhosh Narayanan has composed music for the track. He has teamed up with actor Suriya for the first time. It marks his eighth project with director Karthik Subbaraj. He has also crooned the number. Lyricist Vivek has written the lyrics of the song. Rupendat Venkatesh has mastered the track. The teaser of the flick which was released earlier this month had actor Suriya proposing to marry Pooja Hegde by promising her he would leave behind his life of violence. It also featured barbaric violence, and showcased a gang of quirky characters. The entertainer has been shot in Ooty, Kerala, Port Blair, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The film also includes Malayalam actor Jayaram, Joju George, Prakash Raj, Nassar, Karunakaran, Thamizh, Prem Kumar, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Sujith Shankar, Tarak Ponnappa, Uday Mahesh, George Maryan, Ramachandran Durairaj, Sandeep Raj, Nandita Das, MD Asif, Vidhu, Murugavel, and Remya Suresh. Actress Shriya Saran has been signed up for a sizzling number.
Shreyaas Krishna has been trusted with the cinematography division. Editor Shafique Mohamed Ali has been brought on board to oversee the editing department. Art directors Jacki and Mayapandi have engineered sets for the drama. Action director Kecha Khamphakdee has choreographed action blocks. The venture is funded by Suriya and Jyothika under the banner house 2D Entertainment along with Kaarthekeyen Santhanam and Kalyan Subramanian for the production company Stone Bench Films. B Sakthivelan has bought the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of the entertainer, and will be presenting the film under the label Sakthi Film Factory. OTT streaming platform Netflix has purchased the digital rights of Retro for a whooping 80 crore.
On the work side, actor Suriya is currently busy shooting for his next entertainer tentatively christened Suriya 45 scripted by director RJ Balaji in which he will be featuring alongside actors Trisha Krishnan, Sshivada, Swasika, and Natty Subramaniam.
