Director Karthik Subbaraj got the attention of the Tamil audience in his very first flick Pizza which had actors Vijay Sethupathi and Ramya Nambeesan in the lead roles. The amazing reception the drama enjoyed encouraged the film maker to continue experimenting. His sophomore movie Jigarthanda with actors Siddharth and Bobby Simha in the main roles garnered critical acclamations from the critics and audience alike. It became a cult classic of Tamil cinema. Actor Bobby Simha took home the National Film Award for best supporting actor for his stunning performance in the movie. After Jigarthanda, the director has not tasted much success.
Director Karthik Subbaraj’s last directorial was the crime drama Mahaan which had actors Chiyaan Vikram and his son Dhruv Vikram in the lead roles. The entertainer did not live up to the expectations of the audience, and as the result did not do well in the box office. While all eyes were on Karthik Subbaraj, eager to know what he is up to next, the film maker surprised us by revealing his plan to make a sequel for his blockbuster flick Jigarthanda. Now, we have an interesting update regarding the entertainer.
Ever since the official announcement was made, along with excitement, there were a lot of questions raised. One of the most asked questions was will the sequel be a continuation of the first part. Now, the director himself has revealed the answer to the question. Karthik Subbaraj is currently busy with the promotion works of Buffoon which he has bankrolled. During a promotional event, talking about the sequel, he said that he got into the idea of making Jigarthanda 2 right after he made Iraivi. Speaking further, he made it clear that there will not be any sort of connection between the first and second part, and that the second installment will have a completely different storyline.
Last month, story teller Karthik Subbaraj announced the sequel of Jigarthanda in style with a short video. He shared the video and wrote, “It has been 8 years since you tasted Jigarthanda. Now it’s time for (we get the visual of two Jigarthandas). Penning up.” There are rumors in town that director Karthik Subbaraj is looking to rope in choreographer and actor Raghava Lawrence to play the lead role in the sequel. The rest of the cast and crew that would be working on the project are expected to be finalized and announced soon. There are talks that the filmmaker is planning on launching the venture by October of this year, and bring it to the theaters in the summer of 2023. This update on the project is sure to send the fans of the film into a frenzy state.
Besides actor Siddharth and Bobby Simha, actress Lakshmi Menon essayed the female lead role. The casting of the drama had actors Guru Somasundaram, Aadukalam Naren, Soundararaja, Ramachandran Durairaj, Senthil Kumaran, Sangili Murugan, Bala Singh, Thennavan, Delhi Ganesh, Sudha, Gajaraj, Ambika, Rajkumar, Bagavathi Perumal, Ajay Rathnam, Bombay Gnanam, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Kaalaiyan, Tiger Garden, Nassar, Anthony Daasan, Vetrimaaran, Aadukalam Murugadoss, Nala Kumarasamy, Dileep, and Baba Bhaskar playing various other supporting roles. Music director Santhosh Narayanan had composed the music for the entertainer. Cinematographer Gavemic U Ary was behind the lens for the flick. Editor Vivek Harshan edited the flick. The project was produced by Kathiresan under the production house Group Company.
On the work front, director Karthik Subbaraj who had a last outing in the likes of Mahaan, has penned the story for director S. Shankar’s next Telugu drama tentatively titled RC15 with actor Ram Charan and Kiara Advani in the lead roles.
