Actor Soori along with Yogi Babu had successfully nullified the vacuum that was formed by comedian Santhanam’s decision to only play lead roles. It appears soon actor Soori will walk the path of Santhanam. His brilliant debut as a lead star in Viduthalai is celebrated by many and has earned him a huge fan following. The Udanpirappe actor had his last outing a couple of months ago in the action thriller drama Garudan directed by story teller R S Durai Senthilkumar. He will soon have yet another release this year in Kottukkaali. Filmmaker P S Vinothraj has penned and directed the entertainer. Malayalam actress Anna Ben is set to make her debut in Tamil cinema with her female lead role in the movie. The makers have officially announced that the film will hit the theaters on 23th of August.
Ahead of its release, actor Soori has shared few details about his character and his experience working on the film. Taking to his official X account, the actor dropped a behind the scene snap from Kottukkaali and worded, “என்னுடைய முந்தைய படங்களான விடுதலை, கருடனிலிருந்து முற்றிலும் வேறுப்பட்ட திரைப்படமாக கொட்டுக்காளி இருக்கும். இது ஒரு Mainstream Content Oriented திரைப்படம். உண்மைக்கு மிக நெருக்கமான படம். இதில் வரும் என்னுடைய பாண்டி என்கிற கதாபாத்திரம் எல்லா குடும்பங்ளிலும் இருக்கும் ஒருவன் தான். இந்த சமூகம் சொல்லிக்கொடுத்த உறவு முறைகளையும், நம்பிக்கைகளையும் பெரிதும் நம்புகிற ஒரு கதாபாத்திரம் தான் பாண்டி. இந்த படத்தில் வரும் பயணத்தில், இந்த சமூகம் உருவாக்குன பாண்டிக்கும், பாண்டி என்கிற தனிப்பட்ட ஒருவனுக்கும் நடக்குற மன போராட்டத்த சரியா பிரதிபலிக்கனும்னு ரொம்ப கவனமா இருந்தேன். அதை சரியாவும் பண்ணி இருக்கேன்னு நம்புறேன். நீங்க அவசியம் பார்க்கவேண்டிய திரைப்படமாக கொட்டுக்காளி நிச்சயம் இருக்கும். He opens his note saying, “Kottukkaali will be entirely different from my previous projects Viduthalai And Garudan. It will be a mainstream content-oriented drama. My character ‘Pandi’ is someone you would find in every family. He vehemently trusts in the relationship patterns and beliefs that the society imparts.” Detailing about his part he wrote, “In the journey in this flick, I have been very cautious to capture and portray the mental struggles between the Pandi influenced by the society and Pandi as an individual. I believe that I have done justice to it. Kottukkaali will be a cinema that you must watch.”
Kottukkaali is touted to be a sociopolitical drama that follows the life of Meena, a woman from a higher caste who falls in love with a man from lower caste. Instead of acknowledging the relationship her family says she is possessed and prepares to cast out the spell. Kottukkaali was screened under the title ‘The Adamant Girl’ at Berlin, Transilvania, and Portugal International Film Festivals. It is said to have received a standing ovation from audiences in all festivals. The technical crew of the drama has B Sakthivel taking care of the cinematography department. Editor Ganesh Siva has been brought on board to bring coherence to the flick. Art director K Kadhirr has designed the background for the movie. The entertainer is funded by actor Sivakarthikeyan under his production house SK Productions in collaboration with Kalai Arasu of The Little Wave Productions.
On the professional front, actor Soori is gearing up for the release of the second installment of the superhit Viduthalai franchise crafted by auteur Vetrimaaran in which he has co starred with Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, and Manju Warrier.
