Actor Suriya had his last outing in the epic fantasy action venture Kanguva filmed by Siruthai Siva with actress Disha Patani in the female lead role. Sadly, the drama drew an unbelievable amount of flak from the audience, and ended up being a disaster at the box office. The Kaappaan actor is now getting ready for the release of his next movie Retro. Director Karthik Subbaraj has penned and directed the movie. Actress Pooja Hegde of Beast fame has depicted the female lead part in the venture. The shoot for the entertainer took place in the neighborhoods of Ooty, Kerala, Port Blair, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Retro is poised to hit theaters worldwide on 1st of May this year in languages Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
The production unit had recently released the teaser, and first single ‘Kannadi Poove’ from the drama on social media. They have now launched the second single from the album. Taking to his official X profile, story teller Karthik Subbaraj unveiled the lyrical video of ‘Kanimaa’ from Retro and captioned it, “A pakka 90s Kalyaana Kuthu ‘Kanimaa’ from Retro OUT NOW. Musician Santhosh Narayanan has handled musical instruments for the song. Retro marks the first association of Santhosh Narayanan and Suriya. It will mark the eighth collaboration of director Karthik Subbaraj and him. He has also lent his voice for the track along with the team of The Indian Choral Ensemble. Lyricist Vivek has inked the lyrics of the track. Rupendat Venkatesh has mastered the track. Dance master Sherif has choreographed dance moves for the number. Cast of Retro also comprises Malayalam actor Jayaram, Joju George, Nassar, Nandita Das, Karunakaran, George Maryan, Prakash Raj, Thamizh, Sujith Shankar, Prem Kumar, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Tarak Ponnappa, Uday Mahesh, MD Asif, Ramachandran Durairaj, Sandeep Raj, Vidhu, Murugavel, and Remya Suresh. Actress Shriya Saran will be seen shaking her legs for a hot item number.
Cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna has operated cameras for the drama. Editor Shafique Mohamed Ali has been tasked to trim the movie. Art directors Jacki and Mayapandi have designed sets for the film. Stunt master Kecha Khamphakdee has designed action moves for the flick. Retro is produced by Jyothika and Suriya under the production company 2D Entertainment partnering with Kaarthekeyen Santhanam and Kalyan Subramanian for the production banner Stone Bench Films. B Sakthivelan will be presenting the flick under his home banner Sakthi Film Factory. Netflix OTT streaming platform has acquired the digital rights of the project for a whooping 80 crore.
On the professional side, presently actor Suriya is occupied in his upcoming movie tentatively titled Suriya 45 scripted by RJ Balaji in which he will be collaborating with actors Trisha Krishnan, Sshivada, Swasika, and Natty Subramaniam. Following which he will join the sets of Vetrimaaran for their project Vaadivaasal. On the other hand, actress Pooja Hegde will next be seen on screens in a cameo role in Rajinikanth’s Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The Mugamoodi star is currently engaged in her future ventures Kanchana 4 helmed and headlined by Raghava Lawrence, and Jana Nayagan crafted by H Vinoth in which she will be featuring alongside actors Vijay, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar.
