It is common to come across films that celebrate friendship between two people in Kollywood. But to find a movie that revolves around a gang of friends is a rarity. After what seemed like an eternity, director Venkat Prabhu was the one to flabbergast Tamil cinema audiences with his superbly crafted Chennai 600028. He followed it with Saroja and Goa. Even after the resounding success of these dramas Kollywood did not witness many entertainers made on similar themes from other directors. Nearly after a decade he broke the jinx with the sequel of Chennai 600028. He is soon set to do it yet again. Not as a director but he will be presenting one such drama titled Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu. Actor Ananth Ram of Meesaya Murukku fame has played one of the leads in the flick. He has also written and directed the drama. Writer Rajesh V has worked on the screenplay. Popular host and small screen actor RJ Vijay has depicted a key part. Actress Bhavani Sre of Viduthalai fame has portrayed the female lead role. It is officially announced that Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu will be out in theaters on 2nd of August.
Director Ananth Ram has been promoting Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu in innovative ways. Recently after the release of the film’s trailer he visited chief cities of Tamil Nadu asking for people’s opinion on the trailer. Now he has resorted to traditional promotion. He recently sat down for an interview with a leading daily to talk about Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu. Speaking about how he conceptualized the flick he revealed, “Actually it is a real-life story. It happened to me and my friend. If you observe closely, you will realize that we get like one or two movies based on friendship in a decade like Chennai 600028 or Endrendrum Punnagai. My film will be analogous in tone to them. It follows a group of friends, but it is tad more concentrated on the protagonist’s transition from a kid into an adult. The hero is an adherent fan of A R Rahman sir’s music. I think the title itself gives that away. This entertainer in a way will be a tribute to A R Rahman sir.”
Talking about how Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu happened he disclosed, “After writing the story I met with my producer Aishwarya. She liked the story very much. She recommended that I narrate it to Venkat Prabhu sir. I did and he was thrilled. He immediately said he would present the project.” Describing his entry into the industry he stated, “I come from nowhere without any backing or so. I want to engrave my name as a creator and performer in the industry. No matter what barrier I face, I will drill my way through it. It is the underlying philosophy of Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu as well. It would encourage people to take more risks in life.”
Cast of Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu includes actors Kulappulli Leela, Monica, Elango Kumaravel, Vishalini, Irfan, Wilspat, Dev, Kyp Bala, RJ Anandhi, Sabarish, Guhan Prakash, Fenny Oliver, Dharma, G D Vinoth, Poovendhan, Madan Gowri, Jerome Remigas, Praveen, Sai Venkatesh, and Tiger Thangadurai. Story teller Venkat Prabhu has played a cameo part in the drama. The music for the movie is scored by musician A H Kaashif. The cinematography department of the venture was overseen by Tamil Selvan. Editor Fenny Oliver has trimmed the entertainer. Art director Rahul has designed the background. Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu is bankrolled by M Aishwarya & R Sudha for their banner house Masala Popcorn Productions, and Pooranesh & Mohan under the production label White Feather Studios.
