Calendar year 2024 should probably be one of the best years in actor Yogi Babu’s career. He has inked his signature to be part of many big budget entertainers. He even made his debut as a lead hero in digital space with his comedy web series Chutney Sambar which garnered positive reviews. The Shot Boot Three actor had his last outing in Andhagan helmed by Thiagarajan with actor Prashant in lead. He is now gearing up for the release of his upcoming drama Malai. Director IP Murugesh, erstwhile assistant of directors Seenu Ramasamy and Suseenthiran has written and crafted the entertainer. Actress Lakshmi Menon of Kumki fame has depicted the lead part in the movie. Actor Kaali Venkat has portrayed a key role in the flick.
The production unit recently announced that the entertainer will hit the screens in the month of September this year. Now, in a closely held event the makers have released a new poster from the drama. Story teller Thiagarajan Kumararaja and politician V Kalanidhi have released the poster. Taking to their official X account, the production team dropped a few snaps from the event and worded, “Director Thiagarajan Kumararaja & politician V Kalanidhi launched Malai new poster. Starring Yogi Babu, Lakshmi Menon, and Kaali Venkat. A D Imman musical!” Here is the post made by the production house.

The movie went in to production back in 2022 but got delayed for various reasons. But now, it has reached the final stage of production. The venture has been extensively shot in and around the surroundings of Theni. Speaking in an interview about Malai, director IP Murugesh stated, “Malai is a tale of a young doctor who grew up in the urban setup and happens to visit a village. She meets a phony doctor there. Conflict ensues between the two on all fronts. What happens forms the crux of the story. It is a social drama that threads on human nature to sometimes preconceive things on subjects we have not even experienced or familiar with.”
Besides Yogi Babu, Lakshmi Menon, and Kaali Venkat, the casting of the flick includes actors Singam Puli, Semmalar Annam, and Ramachandran. Music director D Imman has handled musical gears for the project. Cinematographer Theni Eswar has been behind the lens for the entertainer. Editor Fenny Oliver has been roped in to bring coherence to the movie. Art director Rahul has erected sets for the project. The entertainer is produced by R Ganesh Moorthy in collaboration with G Soundarya for the banner house Lemon Leaf Creation Pvt Ltd.
On the professional front, actor Yogi Babu will next be seen on screens in Kanguva directed by Siruthai Siva in which he will be seen alongside actor Suriya, and The Greatest Of All Time crafted by Venkat Prabhu in which he has co starred with actor Vijay. The Watchman star is currently engaged in his upcoming project titled Medical Miracle scripted by K Johnson in which he will be sharing screen space with actress Dharsha Gupta of Cook with Comali fame. Following which he will start to shoot for Prabhas’s The Raja Saab helmed by Maruthi, Sasikumar’ Evidence filmed by Ranjith Manikandan, and Poochandi crafted by Krishnan Jayaraj with actress Anjali in the lead role.
