Pari Elavazhagan’s Jama Teaser: A Poignant Take On The Lives Of Street Theater Artists!

Actor Pari Elavazhagan made his debut in Kollywood in the crime thriller Yaanum Theeyavan directed by story teller G Prashanth. The narration and film making style of the project garnered attention. But the drama could not capitalize on it commercially. His subsequent film Chennai Palani Mars had an intriguing idea. Despite that, it did not do well at the box office. He was last seen on screens in J Baby helmed by Suresh Mari. The entertainer had a decent reception among critics but had a poor run in the box office. The actor is now gearing up for the release of his next venture titled Jama. Apart from playing the lead, he has worn the director’s hat in the entertainer. Actress Ammu Abhirami of Asuran fame has depicted the female lead part.

The makers have now unveiled the teaser of the movie on social media. Jama teaser opens in a lighthearted mood introducing us to its lead character Kalyan who portrays second or third main woman character roles in street theater plays. The teaser quickly takes a serious tone and shows the real-life consequences of a man depicting a woman in reel life. Earlier in an interview talking about Jama, actor and director Pari Elavazhagan said, “Jama is nothing but the name of a troupe of street artists who work together.” Talking about the story of Jama, he disclosed, “Jama will be the tale of reclaiming the lost glory. It follows the lives of two artistes who form a Jama as partners. A tussle drives one of the partners out. How his son reclaims what his father lost makes the crux of the story.”

Speaking about his character, he revealed, “In the early days of Jama, due to safety concerns women hesitated to perform in street art. So, men started playing their roles. To bring in artistic touch, whoever played women began to grow long hair, and picked up mannerisms of women. This had significant repercussions in their personal and professional lives. They were regularly subjected to abuse. Sometimes even by their own costars. I play the role of one such character in Jama.”

Cast of Jama includes actors Chetan, Sri Krishna Dayal, KVN Manimegalai, Kaala Kumar, Vasanth Marimuthu, Jesuraj, S Sarathi Krishnan, A K Elavazhagan, and Siva Marana essaying various supporting roles. Maestro Illaiyaraaja has yet again unleashed his magic in the musical division. Cinematographer Gopal Krishna has cranked the camera. Editor M A Partha has taken care of the editing department. Art director Srikanth Gopal has engineered sets for the flick. The movie is funded by Sai Devanand for his banner label Learn and Teach Production. Alexander of Picture Box will be presenting the drama. An official release date for the entertainer is anticipated to be announced soon.
