Director Mani Ratnam’s epic historical flick Ponniyin Selvan was released last year amidst high anticipation. The entertainer was screened in more than 1000 screens worldwide. It enjoyed massive response among the audience except for little dissatisfaction over VFX portions. The project racked up a pile load of money. Unfortunately, though it had a positive response on one sect of the audience, it ran into a controversy among another sect of the population. It paved the way for a heated debate on social media, and faced strong criticism from Tamil historians. Even director Vetrimaaran made a comment on the issue. Eventually things have subsided. Now, the production unit is gearing up for the release of the second part of the franchise which is set to hit the theaters on 28th of April this year.
Trailer of the second part was recently unveiled in a grand audio launch graced by superstars of Tamil cinema. Now, the production house has shared the trailer on social media. Taking to their official twitter account, the production house dropped a poster from the movie along with a link to the trailer of Ponniyin Selvan part two with the caption, “Here to reclaim all their glory! The Cholas are back. Here’s the trailer for PS2.” Here is the post made by the production house.

Over three minutes long trailer opens to a ship in a sail storm with the voiceover of Nassar, “We have news from Kodiyakkarai. The sea has swallowed Arulmozhi. Now the next in line is Madhuranthakan Devar.” Then cuts to a person briefing the king, “My prince, all the land south of river Kollidam can go to Madhuranthakan. All the rest will belong to you. That will be a fair division.” Ponniyin Selvan is a popular novel written by renowned philosopher and author Kalki Krishnamurthy in the year 1951. A whooping 500 crores have been burned to turn the masterpiece into a film. Popular writer B. Jeyamohan has penned dialogues for the movie. Actor Elango Kumaravel has worked on the screenplay of the flick along with director Mani Ratnam. After heavy backlash on the first part, story teller Mani Ratnam is said to have made some changes in the second part to avoid controversies.
Ponniyin Selvan has an ensemble cast with actor Jayam Ravi as Arulmozhivarman aka Raja Raja Chola 1, actor Chiyaan Vikram in the role of Aditya Karikalan, actor Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen as Nandini, actress Trisha Krishnan will be seen as Kundavai Pirattiyar, while actor R. Sarathkumar as Periya Pazhuvettarayar. Apart from these actors, the casting of the drama also has Malayalam actor Jayaram Subramaniam, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, R. Parthiban, Prabhu Ganesan, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Aswin Rao, Nizhalgal Ravi, Lal, Vidya Subramanian, Jayachitra, Nassar, Kishore, Riyaz Khan, Vinay Kumar, Mohan Raman, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Master Raghavan, Makarand Deshpande, Balaji Sakthivel, Vijay Yesudas, Arjun Chidambaram, Babu Antony, and Amzath Khan portraying various other supporting roles.
Music director A. R. Rahman has scored music for the venture. Cinematographer Ravi Varman has cranked the camera for the flick. Editor A. Sreekar Prasad has been roped in to edit the film. Art director Thota Tharani has designed the background for the drama. Stunt masters Dhilip Subburayan, Kaecha Kampakdee, and Shyam Kaushal have choreographed action blocks for the movie. The entertainer is produced by director Mani Ratnam himself under his home banner Madras Talkies along with Subaskaran Allirajah for the production house Lyca Productions.
On the work front, actor Jayam Ravi who had his last outing in the neo noir action thriller Agilan is currently busy shooting for his next drama christened Siren crafted by debutant film maker Antony Bhagyaraj in which he will be collaborating with actresses Keerthy Suresh and Anupama Parameshwaran, for Iraivan directed by Ahmed in which he will be seen alongside actress Nayanthara, and for an untitled movie filmed by storyteller M Rajesh. Apart from these flicks, the actor has Jana Gana Mana directed by Ahmed in which he has shared screen space with actress Taapsee Pannu in the post production stage shaping up for release.
