Actor Karthi lastly appeared on screens in a cameo role in his brother Suriya’s Kanguva which got dragged into massive criticism. The Kaithi star had headlined the blockbuster spy action thriller movie Sardar in the year 2022. After the fabulous reception it enjoyed, the team announced a sequel. The movie which went on floors in early 2024, is now in the final stages of post-production. Director P S Mithran, who helmed the first part of the franchise, has directed the flick. He has sought the assistance of writer Rathna Kumar to write the script. Actress Malavika Mohanan of Thangalaan fame has been brought on board instead of Raashii Khanna who portrayed the female lead in the first installment. Versatile star S J Suryah has essayed the antagonist role in the entertainer. The shoot for the movie took place in and around the vicinities of Chennai, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.
We had recently reported that the dubbing work for the film was underway. Now the makers have unveiled a prologue video from the drama on social media. Taking to their official X profile, the production team of Prince Pictures shared a special poster from the movie along with a link to the prologue video of Sardar 2 and wrote, “Our most favorite agent, GHIBLIFIED! Nearly three minutes long prologue video begins with a horde of cops trying to break in to a Shaolin monastery. Inside which actor Karthi takes on a bunch of henchmen with a sword. After getting beat, a character recognizes Karthi and says, “Sardar . . . It is not going to end here. A storm is coming in the direction of your country. All intelligence agencies throughout the world point their fingers towards him. Black Dagger is coming.” We have a chic intro of actor S J Suryah. A character warns, “A big war is about to happen. If you can, save your country and yourself.” To which the actor retorts, “There is a saying in my village, ‘When it has come to war, life or . . .’”
Star cast of Sardar 2 also comprises actors Ashika Ranganath, Yogi Babu, Rajisha Vijayan, VTV Ganesh, Babu Antony, Sha Ra, Sajol Ahamed, Anbu Thasan, and O A K Sundar. Music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja has taken care of the musical division for the drama. Sardar 2 happens to be his seventh collaboration with actor Karthi after their hit albums in Paruthiveeran, Paiyaa, Naan Mahaan Alla, Biriyani, Sulthan, and Viruman. Cinematographer George C Williams has been behind camera for the flick. Editor Vijay Velukutty has been tasked to trim the entertainer. Art director S Ayyappan has designed sets for the venture. Action director Dhilip Subbarayan has choreographed action blocks for the project. Sardar 2 is bankrolled by S Lakshman Kumar under the banner house Prince Pictures along with Ishan Saksena for the production house IVY Entertainment.
On the work front, actor Karthi will next have a release via Vaa Vaathiyaar scripted by Nalan Kumarasamy in which he has co-starred with actors Shilpa Manjunath, Krithi Shetty, and Sathyaraj. The Japan star is currently occupied in his next flicks Kaithi 2 filmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj in which he will be collaborating with actors Arjun Das & Narain, and a venture tentatively titled Karthi 29 crafted by Thamizh. On the other hand, actress Malavika Mohanan will soon have a release in Telugu cinema in the romantic horror comedy The Raja Saab directed by storyteller Maruthi in which she has teamed up with actors Prabhas and Nidhhi Agerwal.
