Actor Sarathkumar had a release last month in the hyperlink thriller film Nirangal Moondru crafted by story teller Karthick Naren with actors Atharvaa, Rahman, and Ammu Abhirami in the lead roles. The flick was pinned with negative reviews and bounced out of theaters unnoticed. The Supreme star who began his journey in Tamil cinema in 1988 with the thriller drama Kan Simittum Neram is about to achieve the 150-film milestone mark. He is now eagerly awaiting the release of the 150th film of his career titled The Smile Man. Directors Syam and Praveen, who garnered the attention of audiences with the Vetri starrer Memories, have helmed the drama. Writer Kamala Alchemis has penned the story. Actresses Sija Rose and Ineya have essayed key roles in the movie.
The makers had recently sent the entertainer to the censor board for certification. Now we have news that the venture has been tagged with a U/A certificate. The production team has shared the news along with a release date on social media. The Smile Man is slated to hit theaters on 27th of this month. Taking to his official X account, actor Sarathkumar dropped a poster from the venture and wrote, “The Smile Man censored with ‘U/A’. Get ready for a power packed crime drama in theatres from Dec 27th!! TN theatrical release through GRR Movies GRR Ragu.” Here is the post made by the actor.

The teaser of the project which was released earlier this year showed actor Sarathkumar in the role of a cop trying to trace and apprehend a copycat serial killer on the loose. The killer operates with a modus operandi which involves leaving his victims with their mouth maimed and stitched back to bear a resemblance of a smile. Earlier talking to a leading daily about the project, story teller Syam said, “Sarathkumar sir plays a police officer in the early stage of Alzheimer’s. Before he loses his memory, he must stop a serial killer who is on a murder spree. This will be a unique character in his career. I am confident the audience will love it.”
Apart from Sarathkumar, Sija Rose, and Ineya, the casting unit of The Smile Man also has actors Sri Kumar, George Maryan, Suresh Menon, Rajkumar, Kumar Natarajan, and Baby Azhiya depicting various supporting characters. Music director Gavaskar Avinash has composed music for the drama. Cinematographer Vikram Mohan has been behind the lens. The editing department has been handled by editor San Lokesh. Art director Ravi Pandian has designed the background for the drama. Stunt masters PC Stunts and K Ganesh Kumar have choreographed action moves for the venture. The Smile Man is bankrolled by Salildas under the production label Wednesday Stories in association with Aneesh Haridasan and T Anandan for the banner house Magnum Movies. The theatrical rights of the entertainer, is obtained by GRR Ragu, who will be releasing the project under the banner GRR Movies.
On the professional front, actor Sarathkumar is staring at consecutive releases in Naa Naa filmed by Nirmal Kumar in which he will be seen alongside actor Sasi Kumar, Vidiyal scripted by Selvaraj in which he has romanced actress Sneha, and a Malayalam flick Operation Raahat directed by Major Ravi. He will soon begin to shoot for his next project Aazhi – The Ocean crafted by Madhav Ramadasan, and a mythological Telugu drama titled Kannappa helmed by storyteller Mukesh Kumar Singh in which he will be sharing screen space with actor Vishnu Manchu.
