Actor Rajinikanth was last seen on screens in the action flick Vettaiyan directed by T J Gnanavel. The drama had an ensemble cast of actors Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan. But unfortunately, it ended up being a disaster at the box office. The Darbar actor has been busy shooting for his next project christened Coolie. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has joined forces with the star for the first time in his career. Writer Chandhru Anbazhagan has written dialogues, and aided in shaping the script of the entertainer. Actress Shruti Haasan has essayed the female lead role in the drama. Veteran actor Sathyaraj has played the baddie in the film. The shooting for the flick took place in the localities of Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, and Bangkok.

Looks of actors Rajinikanth and Sathya Raj in Coolie were leaked and went viral on social media. Actor Rajinikanth looked youthful and dashing, and actor Sathya Raj was seen in a chic look with blond gray hair. Both the snaps have created massive expectations on the project. Actors Rajinikanth and Sathya Raj have teamed up for Coolie nearly after four decades. Their last collaboration was the blockbuster drama Mr. Bharath which hit theaters in 1986. Coolie will be released in languages Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. An official release date is expected to be announced soon. The ensemble casting unit of Coolie also comprises Tollywood superstar Nagarjuna, Kannada superstar Upendra, Junior MGR, Soubin Shahir, Monisha Blessy and Reba Monica John. Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Pooja Hegde will be seen in cameo roles.
Music composer Anirudh Ravichander has joined forces with actor Rajinikanth for the fifth time after their sensational success in Petta, Darbar, Jailer, and Vettaiyan. A track titled ‘Coolie Disco’ and a tease of ‘Chikitu Vibe’ in the voice of Anirudh Ravichander, Arivu, Ajay Krishna, and T Rajendar was released from the film on the actor’s birthday. Girish Gangadharan, who previously cranked camera for Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram, has overseen the cinematography division of this entertainer as well. Editor Philomin Raj has been brought on board to work on the editing department of the flick. Art director P Shanmugam has designed the background for the venture. Stunt masters Anbu and Arivu have choreographed action blocks for the project. The flick is produced by Kalanithi Maran under his production house Sun Pictures.
On the professional front, superstar Rajinikanth is presently occupied in Jailer 2 helmed by director Nelson Dilipkumar in which he will be collaborating with actor Yogi Babu. On the other hand, actress Shruti Haasan is keenly awaiting the release of her next venture Train crafted by Mysskin in which she has co starred with actor Vijay Sethupathi. The Laabam actress is currently engaged in her next movie Jana Nayagan scripted by H Vinoth in which she will be seen alongside actors Vijay & Pooja Hegde, and Salaar Part 2: Shouryanga Parvam filmed by director Prashanth Neel in which she will be sharing screen space with actor Prabhas.
