Actress Simran who ventured into Tamil cinema with her lead role in V I P quickly shot to fame and went on to rule the hearts of millions of South Indians for more than a decade. The Jodi actress had an outing last month in Andhagan, the official Tamil remake of blockbuster Hindi drama Andhadhun. She had starred with actor Prashanth in the film after a long gap. The project was helmed by Thiagarajan. Now we have news on the actress’s next movie which is titled The Last One. The entertainer is set to be bankrolled by Simran’s husband Deepak Bagga under the production company Four Dee Motion Pictures. Director Lokesh Kumar who made his debut in My Son Is Gay, will be directing the flick.
Actress Simran herself has announced the news on social media. Taking to her official X account, the actress shared the first look poster of The Last One and worded, “Dear media friends, fans & well-wishers. Today marks the next transition of my career, with Deepak turning a producer. Thanks for your support always. Happy Ganesh Chathurthi. Unveiling “The Last One”.” Here is the post made by the actress.
Speaking about the flick to a leading media house, director Lokesh Kumar said, “The Last One will be a horror fantasy movie. A horror flick will hold space for jump scares. But when you blend fantasy with it, it makes room for a magical world. Hence, we decided to go with the horror fantasy genre.” Describing actress Simran’s role in the venture he divulged, “It is a daring, powerful, and inspiring character. The characterization will be completely out of the typical woman centric heroine caricature. The character will have supernatural powers. It will be an interesting one.” He was stuck in the fanboy moment and confessed, “I am a huge aficionado of Simran ma’am. I think undoubtedly, she is one of the most versatile actresses Tamil cinema has ever had. In The Last One I am hoping to paint Simran ma’am in the classic and stylish way we all grew up watching.”
Talking about how this entertainer happened he revealed, “I approached them with a different script. But both Simran ma’am and Deepak sir had different ideas. They just told me a one-liner and I got intrigued. So, we decided to go with this drama and developed it into a feature film.” Discussing the commercial viability of the horror genre at present, he expressed, “Horror genre used to be a safe bet. But of late that trend has waned. However, I think there will always be a good reception for well-made movies in the genre.”
On the professional front, actress Simran will soon have a release in the horror drama Sabdham filmed by Arivazhagan Venkatachalam with actor Aadhi Pinisetty in the lead. Beside this project, the actress has a couple of her long-delayed ventures in Vikram’s Dhruva Natchathiram helmed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, Sugar crafted by Sumanth Radhakrishnan in which she has shared screen space with actress Trisha Krishnan, and Vanangamudi directed by Selva in which she will be seen alongside actor Arvind Swamy.
