Actor Soori began his career by doing a slew of uncredited roles. He attained the stature of a supporting artist in Ajith Kumar’s Ji. Later he metamorphosed into a comedian and had a great run. Out of the blue, he stunned the Tamil cinema audience with his phenomenal debut as a lead hero in Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai. The entertainer turned out to be a blockbuster and his performance in the flick received critical acclamations. He backed it up with yet another lead role in the action thriller flick Garudan crafted by R S Durai Senthilkumar. He is now gearing up for the release of his next drama as a lead hero christened Kottukkaali. Storyteller P S Vinothraj has written and directed the movie. Kottukkaali will mark the debut of Malayalam actress Anna Ben in Kollywood. Recently actor Soori wrote a heartfelt note sharing his experience working in the film. Kottukkaali will be out in theaters on 23th of August this year.
The makers have now unveiled the trailer of the drama on social media. Taking to their official X account, the production team dropped the trailer of Kottukkaali and captioned it, “We are excited and proud to unveil the trailer of Kottukkaali! Two-minute odd trailer opens to Anna Ben’s character gazing at the struggle of a chicken with one leg tied to a piece of rock trying to break free. The opening shot acts as a brilliantly metaphor implying the theme of the film. Then we witness actor Soori’s character along with a group of people escorting Anna Ben with a stark silence. When he gets pulled over by a traffic enforcer, he tells him, “Our girl has been possessed. We are taking her to perform an exorcism.” The trailer ends with a squabble on a bridge nearby a tranquil stream. Kottukkaali is hyped to be a sociopolitical film that revolves around Meena, a woman from upper community who loves a man hailing from lower community. Her family members who could not accept it, claims that she is possessed and prepares to cast out the spell.
Kottukkaali was premiered under the title ‘The Adamant Girl’ at Berlin, Transilvania, and Portugal International Film Festivals. It is said to have received a standing ovation from audiences in all festivals. Cinematographer B Sakthivel has been behind the lens. Editor Ganesh Siva has trimmed the movie. Art director K Kadhirr has fashioned sets for the flick. The project is produced by actor Sivakarthikeyan for his home banner SK Productions in association with Kalai Arasu of The Little Wave Productions.
On the work front, actor Soori will next be seen on screens in Viduthalai part 2 helmed by auteur Vetrimaaran in which he will be seen alongside actors Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, and Manju Warrier.
