Actor Suriya was last seen on screens in a cameo appearance in the biographical drama Rocketry: The Nambi Effect which hit the theaters under the direction of R Madhavan starring himself, and actress Simran in the lead roles. The movie opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Despite that, it had a decent run in the box office. The Massu Engira Masilamani actor has now moved on, and is busy shooting for his next period action drama christened Kanguva. Actress Disha Patani will be making her debut in Tamil cinema with her female lead role in the flick. Storyteller Siruthai Siva of Annaatthe fame is directing the movie. Writer Adi Narayana has written the story of Kanguva. Lyricist Madhan Karky has written dialogues for the venture. The entertainer which went on floors with a small pooja ceremony last year is scheduled to be shot in and around the surroundings of Goa, Kerala, and Kodaikanal. The team had wrapped the first schedule of shoot in Kodaikanal last month.
The first look of the entertainer is expected to be released this month. Just ahead of it, a picture of the actor’s latest look has gone viral on social media. It has got the fans of the actor quite thrilled who are expressing their excitement on social platforms. In the picture the actor is seen with a French beard and colored hair wearing a silver ear piece. He looks sharp, chic, and young. Actor Suriya is set to play five different characters in the flick that goes by the names Arathar, Venkaater, Mandaankar, Mukaatar, and Perumanathar. Just the announcement of the news has created massive expectations on the period action drama.
Earlier talking about the drama to a leading media house in the state, director Siruthai Siva revealed the reason behind the title, “The term ‘Kangu’ means ‘fire’ in Tamil. Kanguva means a man with the powers of a fire. But the characters in the movie do not possess any superpowers. The reason why we used fire is, during those days fire was an element of worship. We have used certain aspects of that. Hence, the title.” Speaking about what made him go for a period flick, he said, “Kanguva is set in the backdrop of 1500 years ago. It is a fictional story in an imaginary world. I kind of always had a fascination for building my own world. Kanguva served as an opportunity to live out my fascination.” The production team had released the motion poster of the film last month which had a masked warrior on a horse standing on a cliff. The production unit has planned to release the entertainer in the first half of 2024. Kanguva will be released in 3D format, and in ten different languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. The film is made with a whooping budget of 350 crores. It is said that Kanguva will be the five most expensive Indian movies.
Apart from actors Suriya and Disha Patani, the casting division of the drama has actors Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, Ravi Raghavendra, K S Ravi Kumar, and B S Avinash portraying various other supporting roles. Music director Devi Sri Prasad has been brought on board to compose music for the film. Cinematographer Vetri Palanisamy has been behind the lens for the movie. Editor Nishadh Yusuf has been roped in to edit the project. Art director Milan has been erecting sets for the drama. Stunt master Supreme Sundar is choreographing action blocks for the movie. The entertainer is produced by K E Gnanavel Raja for his production company Studio Green along with Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati under the banner label UV Creations.
On the work front, actor Suriya who was last seen on screen in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect will soon begin to shoot for an untitled project under the direction of story teller Lokesh Kanagaraj. On the other hand, actress Disha Patani who had her last outing in Ek Villain Returns is currently busy shooting for her next Telugu Hindi bilingual venture tentatively titled Project K crafted by film maker Nag Ashwin in which she will be seen alongside actors Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone. Apart from this flick, the actress has a Hindi drama Yodha directed by Sagar Ambre in which she has collaborated with actors Sidharth Malhotra and Raashii Khanna in the post production stage shaping up for release.
