Actor Suriya was last seen on screens in the epic fantasy action drama Kanguva helmed by director Siruthai Siva with actress Disha Patani in the female lead part. The drama opened to outrageous reviews from both critics and the public. As a result, the project ended up becoming a disaster at the box office. The Vaaranam Aayiram actor will soon have the prospect to get back to winning ways with his upcoming movie Retro. Director Karthik Subbaraj has penciled and directed the entertainer. He has teamed up with actor Suriya for the first time in his career. Actress Pooja Hegde of Beast fame has been cast against the actor in the drama. Retro will be out in theaters worldwide on 1st of May this year in languages Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
The makers had dropped the first look poster of the drama a couple of months ago. Now they have unveiled the teaser of the flick on social media. Taking to his official X profile, storyteller Karthik Subbaraj shared a poster from the film along with links to the Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi versions of Retro teaser and captioned it, “Retro Title Teaser streaming now in Hindi and Telugu. Tamil Telugu Hindi. Retro From May 1. Love Laughter War.” Here is the post made by the director.
Two minute teaser of Retro opens to actors Suriya and Pooja Hegde seated by a temple pond where he vows to her, “Will control my temper. Will quit working with my father. Violence, rowdyism, and hooliganism . . . will quit everything from this moment. Will try to smile and be happy. The purpose of my birth . . . in your language, my dhammam is love. Pure love. That’s it. I am saying it cut ‘n’ right. Now tell me. Shall we get married?” She responds by kissing him on his forehead and agrees to his proposal. The teaser also has glimpses of actor Suriya indulging in grave violence, and introduces a bunch of quirky characters in the film.
The production unit has shot the entertainer in and around the localities of Ooty, Kerala, Port Blair, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Retro also comprises Malayalam actor Jayaram, Joju George, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Karunakaran, Sujith Shankar, Tarak Ponnappa, Thamizh, Prem Kumar, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Uday Mahesh, Ramachandran Durairaj, Murugavel, Sandeep Raj, Nandita Das, Vidhu, MD Asif, George Maryan, and Remya Suresh. Actress Shriya Saran will be seen shaking her legs for a number.
Retro marks the first association of musician Santhosh Narayanan and actor Suriya. Meanwhile, this will be his eighth collaboration with director Karthik Subbaraj. The cinematography department of the venture has been handed over to Shreyaas Krishna. Editor Shafique Mohamed Ali will be editing the drama. Art directors Jacki and Mayapandi have together designed the background for the movie. Stunt master Kecha Khamphakdee has fashioned action moves. Retro is produced by Suriya and Jyothika for their home productions 2D Entertainment along with Kaarthekeyen Santhanam and Kalyan Subramanian under the banner house Stone Bench Films. B Sakthivelan of Sakthi Film Factory will be releasing the movie in Tamil Nadu. Netflix streaming platform has bagged the digital rights of the flick for a whooping 80 crore.
On the professional front, actor Suriya is currently occupied in his upcoming project tentatively titled Suriya 45 crafted by RJ Balaji in which he will be co starring with actors Trisha Krishnan, Swasika, Sshivada, and Natty Subramaniam.
