Nearly three minutes long trailer cut opens to an ancient battalion with the voiceover, “Authority is the only reason for which numerous wars were fought by kings. To lead those wars, they needed many more reasons. Land, people, rights, virtue.” In visuals we see a person being crowned. Following which he is informed, “To recover the Cholan lands from Pandiyas, Einars are all set.” To which he replies, “Small squad, can’t defeat Pandiyas.” In the midst we have a powerful quotation, “Oppression leads to authority. Authority leads to oppression.” The trailer ends with the message, ‘Brace yourself to witness the world’s ancient empire come back to life.’
Earlier speaking to a leading media house in the state, the director said, “Yaathisai is a period war drama set at the backdrop of seventh century during the Sangam era in the Pandian dynasty ruled by prince Ranadheeran. It tells the tale of rivalry between two communities within the ancient Tamil populous. The uprising of the Eyinars and Cholas against the Pandiyas is the nuclei of the movie. Since it is a period drama, we put in a lot of effort in research. Trying to get a detailed grip on the culture, dialect, fighting skills, weapons and war strategies deployed, style of costumes and ornaments used during the era, from whatever study materials we could get our hands upon. There is also an exciting shot at partially recreating the popular Dasiyattam, an ancient form of dance. We have done our best to present the near milieu of the Sangam era to the audience. I am confident Yaathisai will be an interesting film for the audience.”
Apart from actors Shakthi Mithran, Rajalakshmi, and Guru Somasundaram, the casting department of the flick has actors Seyon, Subathra, M Chandrakumar, Samar, Semmalar Annam of Maadathy fame, Subathra, Samar, Vijay Seyon, S Ruby Beauty, Rajasekar, Vaidehi, Seenu, Sabdhaseelan, Jamaal, Nirmal, Sureshkumar, Tamizhselvi, Sathish Nadarajan, Sidhu, Pascal, Samson, Sanjay, and Suji Subha portraying various other supporting parts. Music director Chakravarthy has composed music for the venture. Cinematographer Akilesh Kathamuthu has shouldered camera for the movie. Editor Mahendran Ganesan has trimmed the flick. Art director Ranjith Kumar has erected sets for the drama. Stunt master Om Siva Prakash has designed action moves for the project. The entertainer is funded by K R Raja Varshan under the production company Venus Infotainment along with K J Ganesh for Six Star Entertainment.
On the work front, actor Guru Somasundaram who had his last outing in Tamil in Agent Kannayiram is currently busy shooting for his upcoming flick christened Indian 2 filmed by Shankar in which he will be collaborating with actor Kamal Hassan, and for two of his Malayalam dramas Barroz: Guardian Of D’Gama’s Treasure under the direction of superstar Mohanlal, who also plays the lead in the drama, and for Charles Enterprise helmed by filmmaker Subhash Lalitha Subrahmanian in which he will be seen alongside actors Urvashi and Balu Varghese.
