Musician turned actor Vijay Antony’s choice of films has been impressive throughout his career. The Naan actor is currently gearing up for the release of his next murder mystery drama which is christened Kolai. Director Balaji K Kumar of Vidiyum Mun fame has helmed the project. Actress Ritika Singh has played the female lead role. The shooting for the project which was happening in full swing has now been wrapped and is sent to the post production.
Now, the production house has dropped the trailer of the flick on social media. Music director Anirudh Ravichander has shared the trailer. Taking to his official twitter handle, the young musician shared the trailer, and wrote, “Happy to release the trailer of Kolai. Looks stunning! Best wishes team.” Here is the trailer shared by the musician.
The two minutes odd cut, opens with actor Vijay Antony’s voiceover telling us, “There is no such thing as ‘A perfect murder.’ Every murder will definitely have a flaw.” Then we are told that a young Indian model has been murdered under mysterious circumstances. Vijay Antony who comes as a detective looks for clues to solve the murder. The first look poster which had actor Vijay Antony dressed up in a Sherlock Holmes sort of attire, with a full coat and a hat on his head engendered high hopes for the movie. The trailer has further upped the expectations.
Speaking to a leading daily about the flick, the director stated, “Kolai is inspired by the infamous murder of model Dorothy King. Vijay Antony essays the role of Vinayak, a detective who is working on solving the case.” Talking about the scripting efforts involved for the project, he said, “I did nearly 40 rough drafts before finalizing the final piece of work. Since, it is an incident that took place in the 1920’s I had to be creative in giving it the color of a modern-day tale.” He signed off giving us the gist of the story, “Kolai is about a beautiful model named Leila, who is found dead in her posh apartment. Five people who have personal beef with her, and have motives to want her dead visit her in her apartment right before her death. Vinayak is called on to crack the case.”
Apart from actor Vijay Antony, the casting of the movie has actors Kishore Kumar, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Radhika Sarathkumar, Murali Sharma, Arjun Chidambaram, and Siddhartha Shankar in various other supporting parts. Cinematographer Sivakumar Vijayan has shouldered the camera for the entertainer. Music director Girishh Gopalakrishnan has composed the music for the flick. The editing department of the drama has been handed over to editor R. K. Selva. The movie is produced by Kamal Borah, and Pankaj Borah for the banner house Infiniti along with B. Pradeep, and Lalitha Dhananjayan for the production house Lotus Productions.
On the work front, actor Vijay Antony who was last seen on screens in the political thriller Kodiyil Oruvan is currently shooting for several ventures concurrently. He is shooting for the sequel of his blockbuster drama Pichaikkaran under his own direction, for Ratham under the directorial of film maker C. S. Amudhan, and for Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan filmed by director Vijay Milton. Besides these flicks he has Thamezharasan helmed by Babu Yogeswaran, Agni Siragugal scripted by Naveen, and Khaki helmed by A. Senthil Kumar in various stages of post-production getting tuned for release.
