Films getting made, shelved, and delayed for release due to financial troubles is a regular thing in Tamil cinema. Actor Vijay Sethupathi’s two such ventures Idam Porul Yaeval and Maamanithan with film maker Seenu Ramasamy had been caught in the mud for a long time. The Soodhu Kavvum star began his journey as a lead hero in k-town under the directorial of Seenu Ramasamy in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru. The film garnered positive reviews from the critics and audience alike. Unfortunately, though it did not do well in the box office. The duo came together again in Dharma Durai which made a decent return on capital. Following the success of the flick the pair made Idam Porul Yaeval and Maamanithan which ran in to financial tussle and had to be put in the box. Now, we have news on one of the entertainers.
The good news is Maamanithan is all set to see the day light soon. The film which began its production in 2017 is finally set to see the day light on 6th of May this year. Actor and producer R. K. Suresh has bagged the theatrical rights of the film in the state and in Kerala. The producer himself has announced the news on social media. Taking to his official twitter handle the actor shared a poster from the film and wrote that, ‘actor Vijay Sethupathi and director Seenu Ramasamy’s film Maamanithan will have a worldwide release on May 6th.’
Actor Vijay Sethupathi is said to have essayed the role of an auto driver. The flick will portray the struggles of middle-class people, it is said. Apart from Vijay Sethupathi, the film has actress Gayathrie essaying the female lead role. The cast of the flick includes actors K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram, Shaji Chen, Jewel Mary, Anikha, Ganja Karuppu, Manasvi Kottachi, and Saravana Sakthi in various other supporting roles. The music for the entertainer is composed by Ilaiyaraaja and his sons Yuvan Shankar Raja, and Karthik Raja. The cinematography department of the film has been handled by cinematographer M. Sukumar. Editor Sreekar Prasad has edited the drama. The entertainer is funded by musician Yuvan Shankar Raja along with Shan Sutharasan under the banner house YSR Productions.
On the work front, actor Vijay Sethupathi who was last seen in Kadaisi Vivasayi is currently busy shooting for his next Tamil drama christened Viduthalai helmed by director Vetrimaaran in which he will be sharing the screen space with actor Soori. He is also busy shooting for his Hindi ventures titled Mumbaikar directed by Santhosh Sivan, Gandhi Talks directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar, and Merry Christmas. Apart from these projects, the actor will have back-to-back releases in the likes of Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal helmed by Vignesh Shivan in which he has shared the screen space with actresses Samantha and Nayanthara, Vikram directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj in which he will be seen alongside Fahadh Faasil, and Kamal Haasan, and his Malayalam film 19 (1) (a).
